Here's the e-mail we have been waiting for from our salesman -
"Sent 23 September 2010 17:20
Hi Larry, I thought you'd like to know that I just saw the car and it looks fantastic! Also checked that all of your options were on there and I can say yes, they are all accounted for. Cashmere paint colour looks really good on the 5 series as well. See you guys tomorrow. Regards Ken New Car Sales Manager"
You beauty! All the ducks are in a row.
We're ready for the pickup (or is it delivery?)
And Colleen just gave me a kiss. What more could a man want?

Minto is a suburb south of Sydney (but north of Port Kembla where ship docked), where BMWs go to be validated as meeting all Australian Standards.
According to Ken, our salesman and good friend who we visited on Friday, 10 Sept, (and he showed me the info on this computer screen) our 528i arrived in the Minto yard at 7:32am that morning.
Tentative arrangements have been made for handback of the 535i and pickup of the 528i on Friday 24 Sept, 1 week from today!
While gathering all the paperwork for this transaction we discovered an unread e-mail from BMW Australia e-nthusiast - Edition 2 2010 that had a link to the Wheels magazine reprint where the 5 series (535i) over the 4 other cars in it's class - Merc E350, Jag XF 3.0D S, Audi A6 TFSI and Lexus GS45h.
Now our good freind and fellow BMW owner actually test drove at least a Merc, but we both agreed, and didn't need the article to decide.
But we thought we'd be fair and at least post the article here.
Enjoy and more in the coming days!

Well arrived in Port Kembla a port south of Sydney near Wollongong!
We understand from the dealer that she now gets trucked to a southern suburb of Minto where she is checked by the government agency responsible for Australian standards compliance. She will then be trucked to the dealer for their preparation. Our next post will provide more specific details.
Well, it would appear that two things have occured. Our BMW has arrived in Australia, albeit on the western shore in Freemantle, Western Australia. The reference to "released" we are told is that the dealer has been made aware of the pending release of the car to the land process.
It's obvious that the ship is on it's way from Reunion Island, to Fremantle, it's first port of call in Australia.
But you have to look at the last copy of this report, to note that it was delayed in East London, South Africa and it's now one day later that it was in the previous report.
We hope it enjoyed the extra day in South Africa. Probably stayed to say hi to our friends Basil & Leonie who were on their way.
Our car will be visiting Durban, South Africa, before we ever do. We have friends leaving for a visit to South Africa and our car has beat them there. In fact it will be gone before they get there.
Getting excited,
Larry & Colleen
2010AG16 18:00 Sydney, 10:00 South Africa, 04:00 US EDT,
The beauty of our order is that we were pretty pleased to find that while we didn't have the M-pack option to order back in June, aside from the M logos on the wheels, door sills and steering wheel (and something about an aerodynamic addition) we have added individual options that make up the same as what is in the M-pack, even to 19" wheels. We are especially glad we got the anthracite headliner option in at the very last minute!
We learned late last week that our car now has a VIN (vehicle identification number) and has been built. In fact, not only has it been built, but it's already on the ship and on the way to Australia! Boy, you should see all the places it will visit before it comes here. And Colleen commented that it too has a passion for cruising like we do.
So we are attaching the ports of call and dates. Our BMW is aboard the Morning Carol and will arrive in Port Kembla (Wollongong, 1 hour south of Sydney) on 2 Sept after having visited France, UK, South Africa, Reunion and even other ports in Australia (Fremantle, Western Australia being one of them!)
And we've even found a You-Tube video of the ship. The Morning Carol only comes into view at the 3:19 mark, but it's the ship!
